Many of the default textures are surprisingly detailed, but of course it would be nice to get a real high-resolution texture mod in place some day. In fact, even with the highest form of antialiasing, supersampling still does wonders to reduce artifacts and improve IQ in new games like DmC. Of course, since the rendering itself isn't too hardcore (it's a PS2 game), you should be able to get away with even higher resolutions. If you're using a standard 1080p display, you can use 2560x1440, which works pretty well for me.

To do it, you just need to create a custom resolution that fits your aspect ratio but is higher than that of your monitor. A lot of people use this to 'fake' higher resolutions on low-res monitors, but it's especially effective for improving IQ (image quality) in any game, especially those with inferior or no antialiasing options. So, the only way to get antialiasing is to play it in PCSX2 or downsample.ĭownsampling is similar to MSAA, except that instead of supersampling just the edges of polygons, it supersamples the entire screen. Usually you can set your own V-Sync and antialiasing for certain titles, but given that this is an older game with a lot of custom rendering (which didn't make a return in the HD Collection, interestingly enough), it doesn't work with those options at all. You actually can't adjust the antialiasing, even with tools in your driver (at least, not NVIDIA's tools).
If only the game were easier to mod, it might be possible to dig in and fix this mistake some day. Even still, all of the cutscenes seem to do just fine, which is the only place where it's needed.
Totally insane- you might as well have a desync in audio if it means letting the game run at a reasonable speed. I'm guessing that it was someone who lazily converted the format and rewrote the sound engine in such a way to cap speed to sound playblack.
